Halfway In, and the Roots Are Holding
We are six months into the year. Every time I say that out loud, it lands a little harder, because it has been one of the busiest, fullest, most rewarding stretches I can remember, and somehow it has flown.
So before we all put our heads down and charge at the second half, I want to stop for a moment. Not to slow anything down, but to look at what we have built so far and take stock of it properly. Because there is a lot to be proud of here, and I think we forget to notice that when we are in the thick of the work.
What the first six months actually looked like
Five new clients have joined the team this year. Five. Each one arriving holding their own story, their own ambition, their own version of what a strong business looks like. That never gets old for me.
The Boardroom has moved into its tenth year, which still makes me sit back in my chair when I think about it. Ten years of women showing up, doing the honest work in a room together, holding each other steady. That is not a programme, that is a foundation.
We added The Reciprocity Exchange to the calendar, and it did exactly what I hoped it would. It gave people a real reason to be in the room with each other, to give before they asked, to build something visible that proves the way we work actually holds up in practice.
And underneath all of it has been the visibility work. Making sure Team STPN and every single one of our clients stayed seen, stayed findable, stayed front of mind for the right opportunities. Honestly, some of that has been graft. It is not always glamorous, and it does not always land on the first try. But it has been rewarding in a way that only comes from watching someone finally get spotted for the thing they have been quietly brilliant at all along.
Then there was Dallas. Three weeks on the ground, building the business, building relationships, putting the work in front of people who had never heard of us before. That kind of trip stretches you. It also reminds you how far a clear message and a bit of nerve can carry you.
Different journeys, same roots
Here is the thing I keep coming back to when I look at everyone we work with. On paper, our clients could not be more different. Different industries, different stages, different definitions of success. And yet there is one thing they all share, and it is the reason any of this works.
Strong roots. Steady actions.
Not the big dramatic leap. Not the overnight anything. The quiet, repeated, unglamorous action that goes down into the ground while nobody is watching, so that when the season changes, you are still standing. The results we are seeing right now trace straight back to the actions taken months ago, when it was harder to see the point. That is not luck. That is roots.
So if you are looking at your own year so far and feeling behind, read that paragraph again. The work you did in the quiet is what you are standing on now.
Three ways to regroup at the midpoint
If you want to use this halfway mark well, here is how I would do it.
- First, look at what has actually worked, not what you meant to do. Pull out the wins that are real, the ones that moved something. We are so quick to skip past those and fixate on the gap. Name what worked, in plain language, and let yourself take it in before you move on. You cannot repeat a strength you have not noticed.
- Second, get honest about what has been draining you. Not everything that is busy is useful. Some of what filled your first six months was noise, and it is worth naming it now so you do not drag it into the next six. This is the part where you stop and pause properly before you decide anything.
- Third, reconnect with why you started. Halfway through a year is exactly when the original reason goes quiet under all the doing. Bring it back to the front. When you are clear on what you are actually building, the next decision gets a lot easier to make.
How to choose your focus for the next quarter
When it comes to deciding where to point your energy next, I would keep it simple, because complicated plans are the ones that get abandoned by week two.
Pick the one thing that, if it went well, would make the most difference to everything else. Just one. Then choose a small number of steady actions that serve it, the kind you can actually keep up when the week gets messy, and protect them like they matter. Because they do.
The temptation at the midpoint is to add more. More goals, more platforms, more plates spinning. I would push you the other way. Do less, but do it with your whole attention. Depth beats scatter every single time, and the person who commits to a few grounded actions will always outlast the one chasing ten shiny ones.
What we are looking forward to
The second half of this year has plenty in it, and I cannot wait for it.
The biggest one is close to my heart. The Boardroom turns ten, and we are marking it properly with a celebration event. A decade of this work, of this community, of women choosing to build steadily and back each other while they do it. If you have ever been part of a Boardroom room, you will understand why this one matters so much. And if you have not yet, this is the year to change that.
There is more visibility work ahead, more chances to get our clients seen, more moments where the quiet actions of the last six months start showing their return. And I fully intend for us to enjoy every bit of it, because a business you cannot enjoy building is not the win it looks like from the outside.
So here we are. Halfway in, roots down, still standing, and looking forward. Take the moment to notice how far you have already come. Then pick your one thing, keep your feet under you, and let us go and build the rest of it well.
Here’s to the next six months.
